Description: George Ashmead was one of a handful of highly successful taxidermists working in London during the nineteenth century. He had his premises in Grosvenor Square and operated at a slightly earlier period than most of the others. Much of his work focused on exotic creatures so this herring gull is something of an unusual production for Ashmead.
