A Taxidermy Arfak Parotia Bird of Paradise beneath a Glass Dome

SOLD

Latin: Parotia sefilata

Size: approx. 53cm x 31cm x 30cm

Description: There are several species of six-wired birds of paradise, and the one that inhabits the remote Arfak Mountains of western New Guinea is a rare one. The six-wired birds (whose name derives from the wire-like appendages that extend from their heads and terminate in a kind of feathery flag) are best known for the fantastic dances that the males perform to entice a female. This excessively rare specimen is housed beneath a well proportioned glass dome.
