Pheasant by R. Duncan of Newcastle upon Tyne
SOLD
Log #7851
Latin: Phasianus colchicus
Size: approx. 81cm x 53cm x 22cm
Description: During the late 19th century a style of casing developed in north-east England that was quite unlike the style that was fashionable in the rest of the country. Instead of the ornate interiors decorated with all kinds of vegetation and faux rock work, several north east taxidermists made cases that were entirely bare to display their products. One of these was Robert Duncan (1837-1909) and this case showing an unusually coloured pheasant is typical of his work.
