Description: Magnificent Victorian taxidermy Honey Buzzard amongst naturalistic setting with grass snake prey.

Henry Ward trained his two sons, Edwin and Rowland, in taxidermy, and both followed him into the trade. Edwin, the elder son, set up in business on his own account in about 1865. Edwin was the first member of the family to receive the patronage of the Royal Family when, in 1872, he mounted the head of a fine wild white Bull shot at Chillingham Park b the Prince of Wales (later Edward V11). One of his sons, Herbert, married Sarita, and she (Sarita Ward) in 1927 published a book entitled A Valiant Gentleman, describing Edwin as a 'naturalist and sculptor.'
