Description: Beautiful Victorian taxidermy specimen of a Buff-backed Heron. Posed in naturalistic setting under oval glass dome.

This species maintains a special relationship with cattle, which extends to other large grazing mammals. The Buff-backed Heron or "Cattle Egret" removes ticks and flies from cattle and consumes them. This behaviour benefits both species and has spawned many common names including cow crane, cow bird or cow heron, or even elephant bird and rhinoceros egret.
