Ring-tailed Lemur Skeleton
Latin: Lemur catta
Size: Approx. 53cm x 36cm x 26cm
Description: Rare antique Lemur Skeleton under it's original Victorian glass dome. Under new legislation skeletons are considered "not worked" and therefore although the item is pre 1947 it is no longer exempt from licencing. It therefore comes with relevant paperwork - an article 10 certificate in the sellers name.
Although the term "lemur" was first intended for slender lorises, it was soon limited to the endemic Malagasy primates, which have been known as "lemurs" ever since. The first mention of the ring-tailed lemur in Western literature came in 1625 when English traveler and writer Samuel Purchas described them as being comparable in size to a monkey and having a fox-like long tail with black and white rings.
