The family business of J. Hutchings of Aberystwyth was one of the most prolific of all taxidermy firms with an immediately recognisable and unique style of their own. The firm was founded in the 1860s at 7, King Street. James Hutchings had three sons, George, Walter and James Frederick. Fred Hutchings went to work at the famous and distinguished E.F.Spicer's in Birmingham, and was reputedly their foreman in 1889 when only nineteen years old.
