Description: Complex antique arrangement of taxidermy kingfishers on groundwork with real roots protruding from river bank and water effect made from painted glass. Six taxidermy specimens in total, one pursuing taxidermy fish under the water's surface. Box style case. Circa 1930.
Kingfishers fly rapidly, low over water, and hunt fish from riverside perches, occasionally hovering above the water's surface. They are a vulnerable to hard winters and habitat degradation through pollution or unsympathetic management of watercourses. Kingfishers are amber listed because of their unfavourable conservation status in Europe.
